Willenhall Care Home Puts Residents at Risk

Following a recent inspection, Kingsway Care Home in Willenhall has been given the lowest possible rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The CQC report showed the Care Home had an overall rating as “Inadequate”, with concerns regarding the Care Homes fire safety arrangements.

The findings of the report found numerous failings including:

  • The Fire Risk Assessment was dated 2017 with no evidence to suggest it had been reviewed since.
  • There was no evidence to show that staff had practiced how to evacuate people from the home since 2016.
  • People did not have a personal evacuation plan (PEEP) in place. PEEPs provide emergency services with information about a person’s needs and risks during an emergency, helping them identify those most at risk and the best method of evacuation.
  • CCTV was used in communal areas of the home without people’s consent being obtained. There was no evidence that people had been consulted about this or that they were aware they were being recorded.

The Care Home is now under review and will be inspected again in 6 months.
