Manager Steals £30,000 Forcing Community Centre to Close

The lottery-backed Mixenden Parents Resource Community Centre helped improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable families within Yorkshire. It was since forced to close in 2018. A former manager has been jailed for three and a half years in April 2019, after stealing almost £30,000 over a 5 year period.

The former manager of 18 years, admitted to stealing £2,300 from the centre before her trial started. However, she was also convicted of seven further charges totalling almost £26,000

The centre which provided a place for the elderly to socialise, amongst offering support for parents and the unemployed is no longer able to provide the service. Its users are now having to go elsewhere.

A direct consequence of the theft has resulted in the redundancy of 6 staff due to the centres inability to raise funds. The defendant actively misled the accountants by providing false information and shredding documents once an investigation had been launched.
