A devastating fire occurred on Darnley Street, Old Trafford, Manchester in the early hours of Friday 8th February 2019.
The fire affected a number of businesses; a carpet warehouse, garage and a car parts firm have all been destroyed.
Local police advised residents to keep their windows and doors shut however a local care home and 40 residents had to be evacuated as a precaution.
It has been reported by the fire service, that two gas cylinders were inside one of the properties. The fire crews kept these cool as they fought the rest of the fire which was around 30m by 30m in size.
Multiple fire crews and 2 aerial appliances were used to fight the blaze, as local roads had to be closed as a safety precaution.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown with investigations taking place.
Dave Todd, the owner of Daves carpet warehouse stated.
“After all the years of work I’ve put into it. At this stage I’m right down at rock bottom, but we’ll have to see what happens and move on from here”
While Iqbal Khan, the owner of the car parts firm also added.
“It’s a really horrible experience seeing your business burn. It’ll take months to get it back, it’s going to be a lot of work.”
