Explosions in Car Garage Fire as Cars and Gas Cylinders ablaze

On Wednesday 26th September, a garage fire took place at Birnam Vehicle Services in Perthshire, Scotland.

Fire authorities were called to the garage fire at 12:25 pm, where four appliances were required to quell the inferno.

Firefighters were met with cars and gas cylinders alight with flame. 30 properties were all evacuated including neighbouring buildings, businesses and homes due to fears of the fire escalating and spreading.

Sounds of explosions being heard coming from inside the commercial car garage were reported by local residents.

James Lamb, a resident who was evacuated due to the outbreak said:

“I had been out walking the dog and when I got back I could see the flames and heard a few loud bangs,”

“The explosions have been huge and things are hitting off the roof.

“I just got back to the house when the police came and told me I had to leave right away.”

The Perth Road, where the commercial garage is situated was closed due to the extent of the fire and a cordon was put into place in the surrounding area whilst fire crews fought the flames.

Although vehicles and equipment have been damaged, there have been no human casualties as a result of the garage fire.

Unfortunately, the car garage has been completed gutted by the fire, however, nearby areas have now been reopened.
