The BAFE have encouraged feedback on the proposed changes to the SP101/ST104 scheme, which involves the competence of technicians who maintain fire extinguishers.
In April last year, following ongoing consultations the BAFE launched a major review of the scheme (full title: Contract Maintenance of Portable Fire Extinguishers incorporating Registered Fire Extinguisher Service Technicians).
Emerging from the review is SP101:2017 (Competency of Portable Fire Extinguisher Organisations and Technicians), a ‘ground up’ revision of the SP101/ST104 scheme. The new revision requires companies to ensure technicians are skilled – and remain skilled – in carrying out competent extinguisher maintenance.
There are also proposed changes to company quality assurance requirements with a dual option of ISO9001:15 or a certificated quality management system. The new scheme is open to comments from the public and the BAFE invite feedback on the proposed changes.
Assured Fire & Security has passed the high standards of BAFE, ensuring you have a professional service and system in place with the added peace of mind that you are covered. For more information, please visit our fire extinguisher maintenance pages.
