Police are investigating to see if a stolen JCB is linked to other reports of plant machinery theft throughout Hampshire.
Two men have been questioned with one being arrested after a JCB Telehandler was stolen in the early hours of the morning from a construction site in Havant. The vehicle was taken between 3.15AM and 5.05AM before being driven through fencing and the woods before being abandoned in Denvilles.
JCB telehandlers can cost anything up to around £50,000 and consequently will provide a significant loss to any business.
Investigating officer DC Peter Eamer said
“As part of our enquirers we are looking at what preventative measures we can put in place around the security of heavy plant machinery”
Hampshire police have since released the following advice regarding the safety of heavy machinery in the local area:
- Leave vehicles out of sight when they are not in use.
- Locking vehicles and plant equipment when they are left outside and keeping keys in your possession or a locked safe.
- Considering the use of hitch locks, wheel clamps or ground anchors. You may require a combination of the above to meet insurance requirements.
