The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) is changing its name to the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (IWFM).
Being in their 25th year, members of the BIFM board have approved the name change with a unanimous vote.
The manifesto announcing the name change from BIFM to the Institue of Workplace and Facilities Management was disclosed on 1st March 2018.
The rebranding of the BIFM institute to the IWFM comes with the aim and vision to obtain a chartered body status. As a result, the BIFM’s chairman Steve Roots released the manifesto along with a supporting statement.
Highlights of Steve Roots’ supporting comments include:
“I am delighted that the membership has voted to change the Institute’s name and approved the course planned for the next phase of the professional body for all those who contribute to workplace productivity.
“The Institute has a role in helping to re-set expectations and forge ahead with making workplace and facilities management a career of choice for the coming generation. This mandate means we can really grasp the opportunity presented by the leading-edge associations of workplace to reposition what FMs do.”
The name change is a marker for the institute’s improvements and re-framing of expectations of the FM role. The aim of the name change is for the IWFM to become a professional chartered body. The BIFM (IWFM) will continue to be where facilities managers can follow their structure for professional standards and qualifications.
Furthermore, the IWFM will be offering more strategic development opportunities whilst embracing the workplace as a whole. All in a bid to collaborate the foresight of interconnect between FM, IT and HR of this industry’s workplace.
The IWFM will continue to drive a variety of existing tools such as events and industry advancement news. In addition to embracing all aspects of facilities management within the workplace.
As a result, this strengthening procedure for the BIFM name change to IWFM is currently underway. The transition is to be complete by the end of 2018 and further information can be found on their website.
