Fire Station benefits from IP CCTV System

Built on a former colliery site in 2010, Dearne Valley Fire Station in South Yorkshire accommodates four fire engine bays and several training rigs, along with community meeting facilities and a separate training building.

Although the fire station had an existing CCTV system, the new training building on-site required installation of new security systems to be installed to match up with the current building. Dearne Valley Fire Station contacted Assured for the best solution to their problem.

Kev Matthewson, Fire & Security Consultant at Assured, surveyed the site and proposed the best CCTV system for their requirements. A new IP CCTV system was fitted in the new training building, and the maintenance for the existing system was also awarded to Assured.

IP CCTV systems broadcast their video as a digital stream over an IP network. Like an analog system, video is recorded on hard drives, but since the video is an IP stream straight from the camera, there is more flexibility as to how and where that video is recorded. The DVR is replaced with an NVR (network video recorder). Video footage can then be stored on new or existing network RAID drives as directed by the NVR software.

Mark Sanderson, Property Manager of South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, was so impressed with the high level of service he received, that he has now asked Assured to install new access control systems across another 13 fire stations in the Borough.

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue can now continue with running their station knowing that the security of their training building benefits from the same level of protection as their main station.
