Smoking Ban - Avoid Breaking The Law
17 May 2009
According to recent research, about 30% of adults under the age of 65 smoke in the UK and an estimated 42% of people under the age of 65 are exposed to tobacco smoke at home and 11% at work.
From 1 July 2007 it will be against the law to smoke, or let others smoke, in virtually all enclosed public areas in the country including offices, factories, cafes, restaurants and most pubs in England within a few years.
Should landlords, managers, building owners and employers fail to take reasonable action to prevent anyone smoking in an enclosed space they could face a fixed penalty of up to £2,500, with additional penalties.
Councils have been granted £29.5 million to pay for staff, who will patrol bars, restaurants and shops, to police the smoking ban and will be able to issue £50 fines to people and take court action against premises, if they flout the law.
Council officers employed to uphold the law will also be able to sit among drinkers undercover and photograph and film people to gather evidence. The Cig-Arrete system is a powerful tool that can greatly assist with enforcement of the new anti-smoking regulations.
Cig-Arrete is a highly sensitive alarm that detects cigarette smoke and flames from matches and lighters. On detection a verbal warning message is heard and if the message is ignored an alarm is then activated.
Assured Fire & Security is an approved agent and distributor and has been installing the Cig-Arrete system for over 10 years, with excellent proven results.
